The ‘Bergmäher’ (Mountain reaper) and the ‘Schnitter’ (Reaper) are among Egger-Lienz’s most popular motifs alongside the ‘Mittagessen’ (Lunch).
The first version dates from 1907 and was followed by more than 30 variants, repetitions and partial replicas.
The present tempera work was known to Wilfried Kirschl, but it was not published as an image in the catalogue raisonné.
